Risk and Audit Committee Member

Jan Pedersen

Vice Chair

Jan has a wide and varied experience in organisational development and management, youth, sports, volunteer recruitment and development, tourism marketing and event management, and has served on numerous educational and community steering committees and Boards, including 4 years as Chairperson of Alliance Housing Inc. She managed a not-for-profit organisation (YWCA) for several years in local, regional and State roles, and served as a Local Government Councillor with the City of South Barwon (Victoria), chairing numerous Council Standing Committees.

She has headed  ‘Life. Be in it.’, the healthy lifestyle campaign in Victoria, and its very successful program for long term unemployed - ‘Every Day is Opening Night’, extending this beyond Geelong to Bendigo and Ballarat, which subsequently saw her move to WA to replicate this very successful program.

She then moved to the South West to become entrenched in tourism development and marketing in Busselton and then Bunbury. She assisted in the regional implementation of a Federally funded ground-breaking tourism project with Murdoch University and the CSIRO CRC (Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Tourism), and later re-focused on education and training activities for secondary school students as one of the SW Partnership Brokers with Great Southern Employment Committee.

Jan then became a Project Officer for the SW Area Consultative Committee and helped attract Federal funding to help build infrastructure programs in each of the 12 SW LGA’s.

Most recently, she founded HANDS UP 4 KIDS volunteer reading program with volunteers visiting partner primary schools once a week to assist young readers struggling with literacy and comprehension; devised ‘SMART 2 ASK’ Community Expo, bringing together locals who are ‘doing it tough’ with 50+ human services agencies that offer help, information or referrals; and SMART 2 SHARE Info Exchange for all SW human services to keep abreast of services offered by other agencies.
